Unlock Apple iPhone or Samsung Galaxy

Unlock Apple iPhone or iPad

Thank you for choosing to sell your device to us or sending us your defective device. In both cases, you must unlock your Apple device. Please also check whether the synchronization with your new device has been completed successfully or if you have created a backup. If you need any support, our support team will be happy to help you.

To check whether your data has been backed up, there is an important detail specific to Apple: Raw device backups (backup copies of the entire iPhone) unfortunately cannot be viewed directly via the iCloud.com web interface. Apple simply does not offer a menu item for "Backups" there.

However, you have two excellent alternatives to check the status of your data within seconds:

  1. Option 1: Check live data directly on iCloud.com (The fastest way)
Most of your essential data, such as photos, contacts, notes, and reminders, is usually synchronized in real-time by Apple – independently of the large daily full backup. Log in on a computer or tablet at iCloud.com using your Apple ID. Click on the tiles for Photos, Contacts, or Notes.

The check: If you can see your latest photos or contacts there, they are already safely stored in the cloud.

  2. Option 2: Retrieve the exact backup date via a Mac or Windows PC
If you want to know when the iPhone last stored a complete system backup (including app data and settings) in the cloud, you can check this via a computer logged in with the same Apple ID.

Via a Mac: Go to the Apple logo in the top left > System Settings > click on your name (Apple Account) > iCloud > Manage... (or Account Storage) > Backups. There you will see your iPhone listed, including the exact date and time of the last backup.

Via a Windows PC: Open the iCloud for Windows app, click on Storage, and select the Backups tab. The exact timestamp of the last backup will be displayed here as well.
Tip: iPhones automatically perform a backup to iCloud every day as long as the device is connected to your home Wi-Fi, locked, and connected to a charging cable. So chances are very high that your data is up to date.
Apple recommends erasing directly on the device, as the iPhone handles all necessary steps – including logging out of the account and erasing the data – in a single process.

  1. Please open Settings.
  2. Tap "General > Transfer or Reset iPhone".
  3. Select "Erase All Content and Settings".
  4. Tap "Continue". You will now be prompted to enter your device passcode and your Apple Account password. This automatically deactivates the Activation Lock and removes the device from the account.
  5. Wait until the welcome screen ("Hello") appears in various languages.

You should only choose this method if you have already sent or given the iPhone away but forgot to erase it. Here, you must perform both steps one after the other:

  1. Log in to a browser at iCloud.com using your Apple ID.
  2. Select your Apple device from the device list.
  3. First, click on "Erase This Device". The next time the iPhone goes online, all data will be erased.
  4. Important: As soon as the erasure process is complete, you must click on "Remove from Account" in the same place. If you forget this second step, your Activation Lock remains active, and the buyer will not be able to set up the iPhone.

As long as the Activation Lock is active, Apple's repair systems will deny access because the system classifies the device as "potentially stolen," blocking technical diagnostics and the replacement of components.

Since in many cases the device is no longer operational, using a web browser is the only option.
  1. Log in on a computer or another device at iCloud.com using your Apple ID.
  2. Select your defective device from the device list.
  3. Click on „Remove from Account“ (do not click on Erase).

Unlock Samsung Galaxy

Thank you for choosing to sell your device to us or sending us your defective device. In both cases, you must unlock your Samsung device. Since Samsung devices distribute their data across different clouds (Google, Microsoft OneDrive, and Samsung) by default, you can easily check the status of your backups from any computer or tablet using a web browser.

If you need any support, our support team will be happy to help you.

1. Check Photos and Videos (Microsoft OneDrive)

Samsung uses Microsoft OneDrive as the standard platform for gallery synchronization.

  1. Open your browser and go to live.com.
  2. Click on "Photos" in the left menu bar (or "My files > Pictures > Samsung Gallery").
  3. The check: If you can see your most recent photos there, your gallery is safely saved in the cloud.

2. Check Contacts, Calendar, and System Data (Google Drive

Core Android system data (such as contacts, SMS, apps, and settings) is backed up by Google in the background.

  1. Go to google.com and log in with your Google account.
  2. Click on „Storage“ at the bottom of the left menu, then click on „Backups“ in the top right corner.
  3. The check: You will see your Samsung device listed here, along with the exact date and time of the last automatic backup.

3. Check Samsung-Specific Data (Samsung Cloud)

If you use a Samsung account on your device, specific items like Samsung Notes or your home screen layout are backed up there.

  1. Visit samsungcloud.com and log in with your Samsung account.
  2. Under the „Devices backed up“ section, you will see the exact time of the last backup.

If your Samsung device is working perfectly, perform the reset directly on the smartphone. Please follow this exact order to remove the device protection for the next owner.

Step A: Manually remove cloud accounts (Must be done first)

  1. Open the Settings on your smartphone.
  2. Scroll down and tap on Accounts and backup.
  3. Select Manage accounts at the very top.
  4. Tap on your Google Account and select Remove account. Confirm the action. Repeat this step for all listed Google accounts.
  5. Next, tap on your Samsung Account and select Remove account as well (you may need to enter your password). This step disables Google's Factory Reset Protection (FRP).

Step B: Factory data reset

  1. Stay in Settings and navigate to General management.
  2. Tap on Reset.
  3. Select Factory data reset.
  4. Review the information, scroll to the bottom, and tap Reset
  5. Confirm by tapping Delete all..
The device will restart and display the initial setup wizard. It is now completely erased and ready for sale.
You must choose this method if you have already sent or given away your working Samsung device but forgot to reset it. To fully remove the device protection for the buyer, you need to unlink your accounts via a web browser.

Step A: Sign out of your Google Account on the device

  1. Open your browser on a computer or tablet and go to google.com.
  2. Sign in with the Google Account that was active on the sold Samsung phone.
  3. Find the respective Samsung device in the list and click on it.
  4. Click the "Sign out" button and confirm the action. This disables Google's Factory Reset Protection (FRP) for this smartphone

Step B: Remove the device from your Samsung Account (If applicable)

Remove the device from your Samsung Account (If applicable)
If you also set up a Samsung Account on the device, you must remove the manufacturer-specific lock as well:
  1. Go to the website samsung.com.
  2. Log in with your Samsung Account credentials.
  3. Select the sold smartphone from the device list on the left side.
  4. In the menu window, click the three vertical dots (More) and select "Remove". Confirm the deletion from your account.

When sending your Samsung device for repair, the anti-theft protection must be disabled so that technicians can perform diagnostics and part replacements. Depending on whether your screen is still working or not, you have two options:

Option A: The device screen is still working (Recommended: Maintenance Mode)

If your touchscreen works, you can lock your private data directly on the device without having to erase the phone.

  1. Open the Settings on your smartphone.
  2. Tap on Device care (or Battery and device care).
  3. Scroll to the bottom and select Maintenance mode.
  4. Tap Turn on and restart the device. Your personal data (photos, messages, accounts) is now safely encrypted and hidden. The repair center sees a clean system for testing. When you get your device back, you can easily exit this mode using your normal unlock code.

Option B: The device screen is NOT working (Broken display)

If the screen remains black, you must remove the protection remotely via a web browser. This requires that a Samsung Account was previously active on the device.
  1. Open your browser on a computer and go to samsung.com auf.
  2. Log in with your Samsung Account.
  3. Select the broken smartphone from the list on the left.
  4. In the menu window, click the three vertical dots (More) and select "Remove" (do not click on erase data!).
This releases the Samsung lock for the workshop while leaving your data untouched on the memory chip. Additionally, make sure to sign out of your Google account as described in Step 3, Option A
